Sept 2018 BOH - Minister Petitpas Taylor Response Letter to WDGPH BOH re P2P Program

Ms. Nancy Sullivan
Chair
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Board of Health
160 Chancellors Way
Guelph, Ontario N1G 0E1

Dear Ms. Sullivan:

Thank you for your correspondence of May 16, 2018, regarding funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) for the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health’s Pregnancy to Parenting Program. The Honourable Michael Chong, Member of Parliament for Wellington-Halton Hills, has also forwarded a copy of your correspondence.

I applaud your commitment to improving the health of vulnerable women and their families through initiatives that support healthy birth weights, breastfeeding, nutrition, and health education programming.

I am pleased to note that PHAC renewed its funding agreements with Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) projects through March 31, 2020. I am aware that some recipients are facing funding challenges. The demand for CPNP funding is high and additional funds for CPNP are not currently available. In light of this, PHAC aimed to maintain the level of funding it has been providing to organizations already offering CPNP. PHAC is committed to investing in healthy pregnancies and healthy child development, by providing funding for programs for vulnerable children and families.

In closing, I would like to thank you for your dedicated efforts to promote the health of vulnerable pregnant women and families in the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph area.

Yours sincerely,
The Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, P.C., M.P.
