POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to provide advice to the community in meeting the current Ontario Regulation 170/03 and to ensure that the potability of municipal water supplies is maintained.

PROCEDURE

  1. Once a report of an adverse water result has been received, contact the Public Utility Commission (PUC) or Township Clerk for verification.  The PUC or their laboratory must fax the results to Public Health.  Inform the Director, Supervisor and Medical Officer of Health of the results.
  2. Request the PUC to take corrective action in accordance with Ontario Regulation 170/03.  Request that the second set of results be phoned or faxed to Public Health as soon as they are available.
  3. If the second set of results are unsatisfactory, discuss with Supervisor/Director/MOH for course of action.  A Drinking Water Advisory letter (HPD SW (L)4) may be issued.  All parties involved will be contacted to determine how to proceed.  A joint press release may be issued.
